Heraklion International Airport, "Nikos Kazantzakis" is the primary airport on the island of Crete and the country’s second busiest airport after Athens International Airport. It is located about 5 km east of the main city center of Heraklion, near the municipality of Nea Alikarnassos. It is a shared civil/military facility.
The airport took its name after the Cretan native and most famous Heraklion resident Nikos Kazantzakis, who left his mark in Greek history as a novelist and philosopher. Heraklion Airport is Crete's largest and busiest airport, also serving as a connection between Agios Nikolaos, Malia, Hersonissos, Stalida, Elounda and other resort towns. The airport has been operating since the late 30s and its annual number of passengers is approximately 5 million. The airport serves both domestic and international flights.
Heraklion Airport is operating in a renovated and modern space since 1971. The airport complex has been expanded in order to accommodate increased traffic and serve an ever-increasing flight network. Especially during peak season, the airport gets really busy, thus some sporadic delays are expected.
The proximity of the airport to the Heraklion town allows the visitor some spare time to explore or simply wind out and have a nice lunch or drink in the local eateries. Furthermore, around the airport, one can find some excellent hotels and resorts in case an overnight stay is required. The historical site of Knossos Palace and the Archaeological Museum are also located nearby and can be easily reached from the airport with our help. Navigating through the airport can be a daunting task, airport staff will be readily available to assist you.

TransferPlan will transfer you from and to Vai as quickly, safely and comfortably as possible. The palm beach of Vai is the largest palm forest in Europe and one of the most famous attractions of Crete. It is located 24km east of Sitia and 6km east of Palaikastro.
The legend says that the seeds of the tree where brought here by Saracen pirates, but the trees were proved to be older than 2000years. That’s why now the legend has been adjusted and replaced with Phoenicians. The divine palm grove is planted in a wide valley watered by the local river for centuries. The sandy beach in front of the palm forest is astonishing with crystal-clear turquoise waters. Being here gives you the feeling that you are on a Caribbean island. The entire area is owned by the Monastery of Toplou, which is the largest landowner in eastern Crete. Vai has no village, hotels or any accommodation, but during summertime, you will find all basic amenities for tourists here. Like sunbeds, umbrellas, drinks and also a restaurant which is owned by the monastery and serves delicious food. Vai was totally unknown until the early 1970s, when a popular commercial for chocolate with coconut was filmed here, using the magical background of palm trees. The beach has whitish sand and flat turquoise waters. In a few places, there are slippery smooth rocks, while on the opposite there are small islets that beautify the landscape. If you want to stay isolated, there is a lovely sandy beach 5 minutes north of Vai, while another option is the idyllic Psili Ammos beach in the south.
Vai is one of the greatest attractions of Crete, gathering thousands of visitors every year. The landscape here is so astonishing and heavenly that it looks like a lost paradise on earth. Your visit here will surely be memorable.
